Earnt hero

Intro

Providing the platform for a consumption revolution

Earnt is a startup on a mission to revolutionise consumption. Fed up with a system where only money gets you access to exclusive products and experiences, Earnt wanted to create a platform that enables anyone to access the coolest things by volunteering their time with good causes.

People who take part in an Earnt volunteering event receive a very special thank you from one of Earnt’s brand partners - think unlimited free coffees, a night at a Parisian hotel, or a guaranteed table at a trendy restaurant whenever you want it.

The founders of Earnt came to Neverbland after running a few pilot events and setting up a simple Squarespace site to capture interest, but needed guidance on how to get an MVP to market.

Strategy

Understanding the target audience

We started by testing the product concept with an initial target audience of students and young people who want to volunteer but haven’t yet. Speaking to just 12 people quickly told us that this initial audience segment was not the right fit - they didn’t have the means to travel far, didn’t want to volunteer alone, and were sceptical of brands being involved.

With Earnt, we decided to make our entry to market easier by refining the audience segment to an older, London-based female audience who had already been turning up to Earnt’s pilot events.

UI Design

Defining an MVP to unlock growth

We explored multiple options for an MVP, and guided Earnt to a solution that would major on creating admin efficiencies while keeping costs low, ultimately laying the foundation for them to start scaling.

We aligned on a genuine MVP that retained their low-cost Squarespace marketing site and added a custom booking flow and event management back-end.

The platform allows users to sign up to an event, join a waitlist, and receive helpful email notifications. Equally important was a robust admin portal for Earnt’s team. They could create events, and manage waitlists (of often over 100 people).

The release allowed Earnt to rapidly increase the number of group volunteering events they could run.

Since the MVP launch, Earnt have successfully run 13 events with over 1,872 users signing up via the platform. This unlocked a new round of investment to expand the product.

Strategy

Learning by earning

With big learnings from the MVP, Earnt approached us again to build a new product feature that helped match charities that struggled to meet their volunteering needs with people who want to volunteer but don’t know where to go.

The back end was configured to handle lots of different types of data - volunteering slots from multiple charities, across multiple cities in the UK, in multiple locations, at multiple times. We created a smooth and intuitive UI to allow users to search through slots depending on whether the location or cause was their driving consideration.

This new feature set allows Earnt to scale their impact - reaching more consumers and helping more charities.
